Like many kids, when Devin was little he used to pick his nose.
Like many moms, I tried everything under the sun to get him to stop.
There was an art supply store that I frequented on a regular basis. The shopkeeper, Jerry, was a funny old guy. Jerry had a great sense of humor. He was friendly and always greeted us warmly when we came in. He always had a kind word for Devin, as well as the occasional piece of candy from the candy bowl by the cash register.
Jerry was also a Vietnam veteran and had lost his left arm at the elbow during the war.
One day when Devin was about 4, we paid a visit to Jerry’s store. As usual, Jerry greeted Devin. Devin had his finger shoved in his nose up to the first knuckle.
Jerry bent down to get eye to eye with Devin, brought his stumpy arm up in front of Devin’s face, and with a completely straight face said, “You know… that’s how I lost my arm….”
Devin never picked his nose again.
HA!! Thanks for the laugh this AM. I needed it!

I had an uncle that told us a similar story!
