Scene: Grant’s bedroom. His friend Jake is over to play. I hear banging noises, so I investigate. I find them both on the top bunk, with travel pillows around their necks. ย Grant is not allowed to get up on the top bunk.
Me: “Grant! Get down right this instant! What are you doing up there!?”
Grant and Jake climb down.
Me: “You know you’re not supposed to get up there!! What were you thinking?!”
Grant: “I was thinking that you weren’t going to come in and see me….”
I really need to learn to stop asking rhetorical questions.

Oh – – – raising young minds is SUCH a challenge!
Once when my youngest son was about Grant’s current age, he and his best friend Jordan used steak knives like drumsticks on the kitchen counter!!! You can IMAGINE my dismay when I saw the chinks and cracks they left behind!!!

He also likely thought you wouldn’t chastise him in front of “company”. My kids found out that didn’t matter.

I don’t even have any boys, and I’ve learned never to ask them what they’re thinking. Really, I rarely want to know.
