Spring is here and I wanted a little color and sparkle for our front door, so I thought this easy arrangement of twigs and butterflies would be just the thing.
My 14 year old, Conner, reads my blog and has been complaining: “Mom! There’s too much decorating and not enough funny.” Sorry Conner, I’m getting into spring mode and have lots of projects in the works. Trust me, I will still be posting about the lame/funny things you guys do, but for now, more decorating…
This project took all of 20 minutes to put together.
Time to break out the spray paint.
I painted the tin an aqua blue and gathered up some sticks. Oh, how I loves me some sticks! To see a few of the eleventy billion stick projects I’ve done, search my blog under the label: Sticks
I tore strips of crepe paper, made little paper blossoms and hot-glued them to the sticks.
I also wired on some blue butterflies I had left over from last year’s Mother’s Day Brunch. (That post has a tutorial on how I made these guys as well as more on the paper blossoms.)
Shortly after I had painted the tin, I hung it on the branch of a shrub in my back yard to dry…
Because I’m professional like that.
I forgot about it and a rainstorm moved through and splashed mud all over it…
Because I’m forgetful like that.
I cleaned off the front of it, but the speckles of mud on the inside reminded me of a Robin’s egg, so I left it…
Because I am creative like that.
And also..? Lazy.
I think it’s kind of fun and whimsical.
I thought about adding some embellishment to the front of the tin, but I think I’ll leave it kind of simple…
It ties in with the front door and I think I’ll just leave it.
Happy spring!
cute, i love how you were able to reuse it time, after time.

Super super cute.
I love that Conner is so into your blog!
CUTE! I love that color! And red. Like the red I was going to paint my entertainment center.
That tin is very, very cute and springy in its current life.
Connor – – – I’m impressed that you READ your mom’s blog! And, if you want her to have funny blog fodder, you’ve got to PROVIDE it for her.
You would be so proud of me…I used sticks today for Peanuts teachers “gift card tree”! He was much wittier than me and called it his geomeTREE, dang I wish I had thought of that!
Love the blue, when you’re done recycling that feel free to send it my way, you have my address!
Oh I really like this! I have a similar type tin in my kitchen and it would be so cute on my front porch =) Thanks for sharing this at the party.
If I was to make this, I would totally want mud sprinkles on it like a robin’s egg, on purpose!
First of all I’d like to say that I think it’s awesome that your teenage son followes your blog – good for him! This Butterfly Tin is totally cute and puts you in the mood for spring. 🙂 I’m stopping by from Hodgepodge Life Friday and am your newest follower. Very nice – and you could have just left it at “reminds me of a robin’s egg”. We would have totally bought that explanation.

May I just say, I love, love, love that color of aqua blue. Not sure if you’ve already said this… but what is the name of it? I want to do a project like this and bought a can of paint called “Harbor Blue.” I’m not sure it’s the same color though. Someone, please help?
I didn’t have tissue paper so I used mini cup cake cups and tinted the tips pink
