Like he does before any major holiday, Grant has been chomping at the bit for Daddy to go up into the rafters and get down the bins of decorations. At our house, Halloween, Christmas and Easter decorations include seasonally themed toys, books and movies. He has been playing with plastic eggs, wind up frogs and plastic chickens that poop jelly beans all day.
While he plays around, I thought I’d share these Easter decor ideas, which basically take me down memory lane and back to my childhood.
I have a few favorite Easter treasures… like this sugar egg. It is almost 44 years old! My mom made it for me for my first Easter. The colors have changed over time. What were once purple roses are now brown, but I am so thrilled to have it.
Each year I put out a framed photo of me and my little sister taken one Easter morning when I was probably about 5. I love our footed PJs. That’s me on the right, and the basket pictured above is next to me.
I also have a paper mache bowl I made out of newspaper and painted with a spring-y pattern. I made this almost 20 years ago when I didn’t have much money for Spring decor and was inspired by an expensive platter in similar colors I had seen in a shop.
It’s silly and it’s sentimental, but it reminds me of where I’ve been, so I bring it out each year and at least look at it… even if I don’t actually display it.
Photos of Easters gone by are part of my decor too. This year I have tucked some of them into a floral arrangement (with more sticks!) and each year we get a chuckle over the goofy photo shoots Mitch’s mom had him in as an infant. (My personal favorite is the one of him in the egg!)
Happy Spring! Happy Easter!
