The other night Grant comes into the living room and plops onto the couch.
He looks over at me and says, “I want to meet Jesus.”
This throws me. In the matter of about 2 seconds, the following questions flash through my head: Is 9:00 on a school night the time to have a conversation about Jesus already being with you? Meeting Jesus and inviting him into your heart? Will a 7 year old understand the concept of faith, grace and salvation…? Am I over analyzing this?
Yes! Waaaaay over analyzing this.
I settle on the following response: “Yes, I want to meet Him too… someday.”
Grant sizes me up for a moment: “Well, you’ll probably meet Him first.”
I sure hope so buddy. I sure hope so.

Get the little book “Heaven is For Real” by Todd Burpo.
Great little book, fast read, about a little boy who had a near death experience and went to heaven, but came back to tell about meeting Jesus.
Fisherhubby and I just happen to know several of the people mentioned in the story – – –

Which reminds me, my youngest is always asking when he can go to heaven. It’s a tough one, ya know??
Wouldn’t you crap if Grant became a pastor?? That would be awesome.

so sweet! I love conversations like these although 9 times out of 10 I do not know how to answer. We met with our minister this week for Cailyn’s baptism and Lawson (my almost 6 year old) asked some profound questions about God and Jesus to our minister. I was so proud I started to cry!!!
poindextr says
cool response – good way to let that conversation unfold naturally 🙂 Awesomeness!

That’s so sweet! I think you handled that with wisdom, and he knows he can come to you with his thoughts and questions.

First of all that is one handsome child! and awww how sweet!
My heart sank a little….does he think he’ll be meeting Jesus soon??? Children have a sixth sense…..
cause I don’t want my child to meet Jesus till long after I’m gone….yep I was too way over analyzing:-)
His response is Hilarious!

I love this! I also love that he is on the ball! When my dad died 10 yrs ago my youngest was 5. When I told him what happened he stomped his foot and said “He’s so lucky, he gets to meet Jesus!”.

You are so lucky he has such a tender heart and is thinking of such things so early. I am sure you did a great job of explaingin how much Christ loves him, but probably not going to meet him anytime soon. This is too cute.

Awwww…what a sweet, sweet little guy.
Izzy asked us if she could bring her Bible to my sister’s wedding. I asked her why (just because I was curious) and she said “so God can be there.”
We did have a chat about God always being with her in her heart…she seemed to get it, so I’m sure Grant would get it.

My Grant is named Gus, aka GMoney. He is everyone’s best friend, everyone’s personal comedian, and responsible for every one of my gray hairs. He lives large- adventure is his best friend. He comes up with these questions that just stop me in my tracks.
Leaving church last week, he asked “How did God know he was God?” I stumbled through a pathetic answer and he responded “Do you want to hear me burp my name?”
