I thought this problem didn’t exist anymore.
We have answering machines, voice mail, texting, skype-ing, instant messaging, email, etc…
I thought the days of bone-head kids screwing up my messages were over.
I was wrong.
I found this note on the kitchen counter when I came home from a meeting last night. ย Devin (my 19 year old) took the message.
Me: “Dev, who is Wesley?”
Devin: “I don’t know.”
Me: “He didn’t leave a number or a message…?”
Devin: “He said he’d call back.”
Me: “Did say who he was with, or what it was about…?”
Devin: “Yeah, but I forgot what…”
Me: “Why didn’t you write it down?”
Devin: “Well, I forgot what he was saying.”
Me: “That’s why you’re supposed to write it down!”
Devin: “Well, I was kinda forgetting it while he was saying it…”
On the downside, I don’t know who Wesley is or why he was calling.
On the upside, it’s not just my words that go in the kid’s ear and right out the other!

Been there… Even my husband does this. It’s usually “Oh, ___ called this morning.” (and it’s 10pm!)
Do you think it’s a male thing?

๐ LOL!!! hopefully he’s going to be out of the “teen” soon… (not sure things are going to improve, tho!!!!) xox, d.

I think it’s a “guy” thing…my sons are like that as well (19 and 23)…and you’re right, it isn’t only what we say that goes in and out so quickly. According to your son it doesn’t even go “in” one ear…that cracked me up.
More than that I think it’s generational now — they are so used to instant everything with texts, IMs, BBMs…that telephone and speaking are like foreign concepts!!!
If you ever find out who Wesley is…let us know!! lol!!
Cherished Bliss says
Well, my son is only 3 and I always ask people when this will get better and they start listening and responding with some type of normalacy.. most people say it doesn’t ever end, it just recycles itself into teenagers… I guess they weren’t lying! lol!
This is why we get gray hair! : )
Kelsie From Our Country Home says
Oh boy…But at least he did try and leave you the message which is much more than I would receive here…Hubby will not answer the phone unless the caller id tells him it is for him…any number he does not recognize is ignored.
Though I am now really curious who Wesley is and what he wanted lol.

My 11 yo took a message the other night. I get home and she says. The people called and E has senior pictures tomorrow. Here is the number if you need to call. Um…what pictures? Okay…what time is the appointment?? Her answer…I don’t remember. Okay well let me have the number. There were only NINE numbers written down. THE PHONE NUMBER WAS MISSING A NUMBER!! Um that is kind of important!! Grrr…kids…

Wesley sounds boring anyways. If he was that forgettable he was probably just calling to sell you insurance or something. I say forget him and hope someone more exciting calls you…like a Savannah or a Dexter or a Francesco. They sound more interesting than Wesley.

I love reading your posts like this. It helps remind me that it isn’t just my kids that are oblivious. ๐

As pretty much everyone else has said – guy thing. Totally. At least he did write something down, Matt never did. Now he just doesn’t answer the phone if the caller ID shows it’s not for him specifically ๐
MyBluePeacock says
This is just too stinkin’ funny!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
SueAnn says
I would definitely fire him as well!! How hard is it to write down what people say? Sigh! Sheesh!!
Hope Wesley calls back! Ha

Hah – I’m always “kind of forgetting it while he was saying it”.
Except I call it, not listening.
His way of saying he wasn’t listening sounds a lot more forgivable!
Emmy says
Lol. He forgot while he was listening too funny
