Favorite Songs: Grant shares his Top 4.

November 12, 2011 14 Comments

Scene: driving Grant to his football game last night.  I am punching through radio stations, looking for a good song.  Grant pipes up from the back seat…

Grant: “Mom, do you want to know what my favorite song is?  Born To Be Wild!”
Me: “oooo! Nice one!”

Grant: “And also? No Sleep Til Brooklyn.”
Me: “The Beastie Boys! Excellent!”

Grant: “And my other favorite?  Satisfaction.”
Me: “The Stones?  Duuuude! Cool!”

There’s a slight pause.  (…and looking back at the conversation, I’m not sure if he’s thinking or if he’s embarrassed to say it…)

Grant: “Do you know what my last favorite song is…?”
Me: “There’s 4?  OK.  What’s your last favorite song?”
Grant: “Copa Cabana.”

Barry Manilow. Got it. Everyone needs a guilty pleasure.

One of these things is most definitely NOT like the others! But overall I’d say Grant has good taste in music! 🙂

hehe, I have a secret love for Copa Cabana too. But I think it is mostly due to that time Rachel on Friends sings it at Barry’s wedding.

You are obviously teaching him correctly. A well rounded taste in music is necessary to be an interesting adult. So far, we are four for four. It was a criteria of marrying into my husband’s family that I be able to sing and recite at least a dozen stones songs and know some history of the “legendary band”. Born to be Wild was my ring tone for a while, I loved the Beastie Boys so much in High School that I wore out at least 3 of their tapes. I am not ashamed to say I can sing (even the bad words) most of their songs word for word still. As long as Grant doesn’t start referring to himself as “Rico” and wanting his friends to wear Yellow Feathers in their hair and a dress way down to there, and doesn’t figure out what “Brass Monkey, that Funky Monkey is”. We are all good.
