Today’s post isn’t going to be pretty. In fact, it’s going to be rather sweaty and stinky.
Several weeks back I mentioned what my “word of the year” was going to be for 2012. Towards that end, I bought a month of unlimited fitness classes through Living Social and tried to get several friends to join me.
My friend Rose bought the deal with me, and we loooooooved this killer work out. It is actually fun and it is changed up enough to keep me from getting bored. I pretty much had to take the entire month of March off, but am anxious to start up again today.
I am writing this post because we had so much fun with these classes that I just had to share what we were doing, and what I’m anxious to get started with again. It’s so simple it’s brilliant!
Using our own body weight, or simple resistance bands, we get an incredible work out without over-doing it and risking injury (something I worry about more and more the older that I get…)
We’re both working on triceps… me using my own body weight, and Rose using resistance bands. Owwie.
And a Standing Row…
And my personal favorite (but Rose’s least favorite)… The Rope. I make funny faces when I do the rope, so I thought Rose would be a better model.
The rope is attached to a wall. You have to get down in a squat and then whip the rope up and down, sending undulating waves all the way back to the wall, moving only your arms. It. Is. So. Dang. Hard.
We also do jumping jacks holding the ends of the rope.
The person behind this fun torture?
Alisha Lopez… personal trainer extraordinaire and all around fitness bad-ass.
In addition to ropes, she makes us do walking lunges with medicine balls….
Rose’s form is waaaay better than mine. If I got down that low I wouldn’t get up again.
She makes us do sit ups and throw the medicine ball against the wall while we do it…
I don’t have any pictures of it, but there is also a huge room with an astro-turf floor and she makes us push those weighted sleds that football players train with. Or she puts straps on them and has us pull them behind us like plows.
What I love about this work out is that it really is something I can do at home. Well, I mean, I could do it at home if I wasn’t so lazy and utterly lacking in self discipline. That’s why I love Alisha… it’s like having a personal trainer.
You can check out No Limits Sports and Fitness here and Alisha’s training website here. If you’re a local (Seal Beach, Los Alamitos, Long Beach or Signal Hill) tell her Vivienne sent you and she’ll give you a week of unlimited fitness classes for $10.
This is not a sponsored post and I’m not being compensated for this in any way…. I’m hard to motivate, but I’m excited about this work out and how awesome Alisha is.
