If there is a way to photograph glass without a reflection, I would love to hear about it… |
I also hated (Hated!) that as you were walking up to our front door you could see the entire messy contents of HH’s workbench/crap filled horizontal surface. ย (This is also something my mother commented on. ย Often. ย “Your house looks so cute until you see the crap in the garage window….”)
I had wanted to hang up curtain panels, or spray the glass with frosting spray, anything actually, to block out the mess. ย HH claimed he needed to be able to see out onto the lawn, needed light, etc. ย He wanted to put up blinds (which I strongly suspected wouldn’t happen). ย So for a few years we’ve been talking about it, arguing about it, but not doing anything about it. ย (We’re supah-motivated like that…)
Wallpaper For Windows to the rescue. ย They contacted me about trying out some of their removable covers/clings for glass. ย They have a huge selection on their website. ย I couldn’t decide. ย I couldn’t think of a creative project. ย I knew I wanted to do something fun. ย (Of course all of the Mike stuff was going on during this time, so my creativity had taken quite a hit…)
Then it dawned on me: The Garage!
I only measured the glass panes on the garage door ย because I assumed the panes over the workbench were the same size. ย Then I counted up the total of panes and sent in my request to Wallpaper For Windows.
(Tip of the Day: NEVER assume that all of your windows are the same, exact size.)
HH was NOT on board with the idea. ย He thought it would be too dark in the garage. ย He thought it would look bad from the outside. ย Wrong on all counts. (And he admitted it! Dontcha love when that happens?!)
Wallpaper For Windows cuts the pieces to your specifications and sends them on a roll of peel and stick backing, along with the super easy instructions for installation. ย It turns out that the window panes over the bench are slightly larger that the panes on the door. ย (I didn’t measure them because they were too hard to get to. ย oops.)
The funny part? ย My measuring mistake was the perfect husband and wife compromise.
We ended up taking the slightly undersized frosted squares and centering them on the glass. This is very easy to do. ย Clean the glass, then spray it with water that has just a few drops of liquid soap in it. ย Peel the Wallpaper and “float” it into place. ย Then you just take a credit card (or something similar) and squeegee it into place. ย Ta Da!
Even though I mis-measured the panes, centering the frosted squares worked for both of us. ย HH can still see out and doesn’t feel like it is too dark. ย I am happy because you can’t see the crap as you walk up to the front door. ย Winning!
Much better!
The garage door looks better too.
These are the panes that I measured correctly… |
Wallpaper For Windows has been great to work with… super friendly and very patient while I took forever figuring out my project. ย You can also follow them onย Twitter, Facebookย and on Pinterest.

Hey, we have the same garage “conversations” over here, too!! ๐ I don’t know how he can think I have more stuff when I’m lookin’ at all his stuff!!?? lol!!!
I really like the squares centered with the little bit of clear glass!! I thought it was the way it came at first and was all like, “I love it!” then you said it was a mistake…but in a good way!! It’s so great when things work out for the better!!!

Awesome idea! We’re buying a new house that has an awkward hexagon window RIGHT above the bathtub – that looks right from the shower into the neighbor’s house. Who thought that was a good idea?! BUT…. I’m thinking a privacy film would solve that problem SO easily!!

I have two small square windowa high up at the top of the stairs above my built in desk (oh mamma, that was a mouthful). They are ugly and boring. The Biscayne pattern would be so beautiful on them. Perfect colors, perfect pattern. Thanks for the great give-away, they are always fun.

Love the way your windows turned out. . . who knew a measuring mistake would be a blessing in disguise?
I’d love to win this giveaway. We actually have blinds on several garage windows, which is great, but we have a glass-paned pedestrian door to our garage which is not covered. I hate the fact that this window isn’t covered in any way. It’s been okay because our next-door neighbors have been dear friends, but now they’re selling their house and we’re getting new neighbors. My hubby keeps that part of the garage pretty clean, but I imagine the new neighbors would rather not have a direct view into our garage.
(In our family, guess whose part of the garage is the messy part? Oops.)
Thank you for the giveaway!

That looks awesome!! You totally pulled a Macey with the wrong size cuts but making it work. I would have done that too. Only it wouldn’t look as cute. ๐
My favorite part? The Wonder Woman lunch box on the work bench!

Wow…so many to choose from…I’m thinking of the windows on my shed and on my bathroom. I LOVE the “Atlantis Stained Glass” for my bathroom window…and would probably go with the “Eden Etched Glass”, “Orleans Leaded” or “Allure Leaded” for the shed.

This is the perfect solution for the windows in my office. I work out of my home and the sun shines in here in the afternoon and makes it so hot and downright miserable in the summer. Thank you for the giveaway. Now I’m going to like and share on FB and Twitter.

I’ve used similar products in the past…but love the idea of having it cut to my specifications. Our last project was more wonky than I cared for.

I think I’d go for the basic frosted window. We have a HUGE picture window over my master bath tub! The neighbors would get quite a show if the blinds were open! Oh my!
