Colored glass jars and vases are always popular, but can be very expensive. Beachy blues and greens are just right for summer and an easy way to bring a little pop of coastal color into your house. There’s no need to spend a lot for them because you can easily create the look yourself for next to nothing! Food coloring, Mod Podge, and an empty jar or two and you’ve got everything you need to create an easy tinted glass project!

Make your own tinted glass bottles and jars using Mod Podge and regular old food coloring! Craftberry Bush has an excellent and thorough tutorial, but here’s a quick reminder how quick and easy it is.

Gather your empty jars and bottles, some Mod Podge and food coloring. It’s just a drop or two of the food coloring to a Tbsp or so of the Mod Podge. Mix well, then paint in even strokes onto the glass. Paint the outside if you want it to hold anything, (especially water!) and if it’s totally for show, you can paint the inside. (Hint: the outside is much easier…) If you don’t like the look when it’s dry, just wash it off and try again. Play around with it until you get a color that you like.
These are great for easy and casual centerpieces. Just group together different shapes and sizes and add cut flowers. Very simple, but very pretty.

Do you have a growing collection of empty bottles and jars…? Now you know what you can do to them. 🙂
Absolutely brilliant idea and I love the green color you chose! Pinned!
Love it Vivienne!! I'm totally going to be doing this! 🙂

I love the way the glass looks with Hydrangeas in them. This is something I could actually do!

Oh my goodness I love this idea! I was just looking under my sink the other day thinking what can I do with all of these clear bottles & jars of all shapes & sizes that I just keep stuffing under here? I can't wait to try this!
Can you spray them with an acrylic and use outside?
