Grant is not cooperating. He’s been told to clean up his room. I am not going to do it for him. It actually looks messier each time I check on him.
I just gave him a swat on his rear end because he sassed me about it. (Swat, with hand, totally appropriate and more for effect than anything.) Oh the drama! You’d think I had used a cattle prod. Oscar Award winning wails and crying. Pah-leeze.
“Grant! Stop with the crying.”
mmgmm. hiccup, cough cough, mmgmm, cough cough.
“Grant! Stop with the fake coughing.”
“I can’t stop coughing! I’m allergic to spankings!”
Is it too early for a drink?
Housewife Savant says
You cheered me up (without the coughing, and the nonstop weeping – THAT kind of cheered-up, and I’m sitting.)
J.J. says
But I can’t “pick up” my room Mom, that is physically impossible, besides…it doesn’t cheer me up. 🙂
Hope you got the mission accomplished! BTW..it isn’t too early “now” for a drink.
MiMi says
Dude. That cheered me up! Is he trying to get your sympathy with the crying and being all cute? ‘Cuz it got mine! Poor little abused boy, making him organize his toys! 🙂

It is NEVER to early for a drink!!!
I’ll give you an old tip I learned many years ago….I would give 1 warning about cleaning up your room, if you didn’t do it i wouldn’t say anything else. I would get a trash bag and I would go in and collect all items on the floor, out of place, under the bed etc. etc. I wouldn’t say anything and when they would go to look for their things I would say….maybe that is the stuff I found all over the floor and I threw it away. Of course I didn’t really throw it away…cause I didn’t want to have to buy it again. They had to earn their stuff back. clean room would equal getting their stuff back.
Worked like a charm and actually we threw many things away because sometimes they didn’t really miss the junk that much!
Good luck!

LOL – I thought only girls delivered that level of drama.
I do something I swore I never would (my mom did it to us)….the dreaded black bag! Whenever I can’t get them to clean something up I throw it all in a black bag and throw it in my closet for a few days (sometimes they forget and it’s in there for weeks). A minute of crying then they get distracted 🙂 and I don’t have to look at it or nag about it any longer.

So apparently, I can not eat, drink, or have my daughter in the room when I read your posts now. As she watched the above video, she says, “Wow that’s a really mean mom!!”. Which led to us discussing what Mean really is and why we do things the first time we ask you too, and how Momma has been WAAAAYYYYY meaner than Miss Viv!!!!
BTW, I love Tina’s idea- I am using that one with my son!!

Vivienne – he is so cute. I love that! I have one who is allergic to cleaning her room, but at 13 I can’t swat her on the behind anymore. Any suggestions??
XOXO
Jen
PS – I like those suggestions above about confiscating the items on the floor — genius!
Connie Weiss says
Geez….Kate Gosselin….you were a little rough on poor Grant weren’t you? LOL! I’m kidding of course because I also have a master manipulator for a son.
Love the convo about what cheered up means!

Too funny! My 3 year old loves to help with any type of house work — but when you say it is time to clean your room — forget drama!!!!!!
Alicia says
That is halarious!!
Xazmin says
Oh no! Allergic to spankings. That is too much!
My kids are allergic to cleaning their rooms!
Actually to any kind of work!
The Rambler says
Nice.
What kind of mother are you? He’s gonna grow up and want to keep a clean house 🙂 Are you mad woman?
I kid.
I wish someone would clean my house up too….
:sigh:
Loved your post today.

Oh that is too funny. I don’t know what my mom would have done if I told her I was allergic to spankings!!
Thanks for stopping by to visit. 🙂
Julie says
Why can they MAKE the mess so easily, but they are exhausted (or whatever) when it’s time to clean it up! Glad to hear I’m not the only one dealing with drama!
Christie in Dallas, TX says
Hilarious! I don’t think I could have contained my laughter at the allergy statement!
Alex the Girl says
Oh, Gaaaaawwwwddd…this is too funny. His responses were so typical “I’m trying my best to get out of having to do this.” Esp. when you said that he’ll have a clean place to play in and he said, “where?” Priceless.
Kelli says
I can totally picture what the crying looked like…I have a dramatic one too!
Alli says
Oh wow, have I been there too! Or just the response “but I can’t dooooo iiitttt!!!”
And no, it’s never too early for a drink! 🙂
Liz @ Sugarplum Creations says
“Cleaning my room makes me cough”, that is classic! I love it. I’ve got one of those 🙂
Kim says
He is your kid Vivienne right down to the I’m allergic to spankings. And isn’t it funny how the appropriate miller time has become so important since motherhood??? I find myself saying to myself – well one glass of wine isn’t really considered drinking is it?
