The heart wants what the heart wants…

September 16, 2009 28 Comments

Scene: Our kitchen at lunch time. I have just offered Grant a sandwich….

Grant: “My heart is telling me to have ice cream.”

Me: “After you have a sandwich, you may have a little ice cream.”

Grant: “If I don’t have it, my heart will stop talking to me.”

How do you respond to that?

How cute is that? I would have been tempted to give him the whole container of ice cream.

My heart wants ice cream 24/7. I am denying it. Does that mean my heart won’t talk to me anymore too mom???

Ahhh man don’t you just hate when they come up with something so cute that you don’t know how to deny them what they are asking for! Kids these days are just WAY too smart for us 🙂

Not listening to his heart may keep him out of a lot of trouble.

That’s so cute! My 10 year old is an ice cream addict. She eats it every day. I swear she exists on ice cream!

LOL! Does his heart tell him to clean his room, eat all his veggies? My son always says his brain tells him that he wants stuff, or the best one (when he gets in trouble) I cant stop my brain from controlling my body!

Oh, this is such a cute little tale.

It reminds me of a book called “Ice Cream for Breakfast” that I used to LOVE to read as a kid. Basically it was about a family who took in an undisciplined street kid who only wanted to eat ice cream. The mom GAVE him his wishes – – – only here’s the catch – – – she ONLY gave him ice cream meal after meal after meal.

His heart didn’t WANT ice cream anymore and all got “right” with the world!

Oh how sweet. I’m a sucker though…would probably halve his sandwich and request he at least TRY to eat the half and then start scooping ice cream and then ask if he wants chocolate syrup on it.
