Grant has been taking an inordinately long time to get his class work done. Halfway through a math problem his pencil will become a rocket… or a plane… or a robot that hops over and bothers his neighbor…. whatever.
He has lost recess and “free” time on a few occasions. A couple of times he has seemed surprised and had a few tears over it when it happens. (You can imagine how well HH and I tolerate whining and crying, I’m sure…)
We also discovered that he is giving his teacher a choice as to what to call him….
Grant… or TJ… Whatever…
Um, hello? Your name is Grant.
Not TJ.
Not PJ.
Grant.
Learn it, live with it.
End of story.
I guess its whatever anyone wants to call him that day?
For the first time I’m getting worried for you when he gets older.
Moooom, he’s just trying to find himself 😉
I call him creative.
My oldest daughter was a social butterfly in school. Once in Jr. High her teacher TIMED her “working” in the library – – – out of 45 minutes in the period, she worked for 9.
She well balanced and wonderful today.
Hang in there mom – – – – Grant’s TRUE name may just be Einstein.
Maybe it’s like Superman and Clark Kent and he let the cat out of the bag.
When I was 10 I decided to drop the E from my name.
Conni
My grandma still spells it that way and I”m 40 now. Tell Grant (or TJ) not to make the same mistake that I did.
Grandma also thinks my husband’s name is Dean. I divorced that guy a loooong time ao.
Once again TJ, I mean Grant, makes me LOL!!

Snicker. Snicker.
And good luck with that.
Snicker.
Maybe he was TJ or PJ in another life???
That is funny! Did you ask him what the TJ stands for or do you not want to know? Annie
LOL…hilarious! Where’d he get TJ from?
Poor, poor TJ. He just wants some choices in his little life. A chance to be someone else for a moment or two. 🙂 He’s obviously preparing for a career as an author or artist and he needs a pseudo-name thingy.
And how the heck are little guys supposed to understand “double addends/facts” anyway? Why don’t they just call it what it is? I hate it when they use vocab that’s not kid friendly.
We in Bloggyland love Grant/TJ!!! He’s a smart guy.
That is so funny. It sure us a good thing that his older brothers have paved the way & well gotten you guys ready for him. LOL
My 5 year old re-named himself. His name is Brooks. The first change came in Kindergarten when he started spelling it “Broox” because he likes X’s. He’s had a passion for wildlife since he was about 3, so just before he turned 6 he said, “Mom, I want to be called ‘Chance’ Because I’m a chance for wildlife. Um. Right. We’ll see how long this lasts… It just so happened that he made that decision as we were moving from Texas to Georgia for a year. So he introduced himself as Chance to all the kids and it stuck. Took him about 2 weeks to learn to answer to it though because he didn’t recognize his own name. He then spent a year and a half mis spelling “Chance” “C-h-a-n-s”. He’s almost 20 and he still goes by Chance. At least he’s got the spelling figured out now. Some kids are just like that. They think we should have known what their passion would be in utero and named them accordingly. oy.
