Eavesdropping on conversations in the back seat….

August 5, 2011 19 Comments

Last week was VBS at our church.  Grant was going, as was the little girl a few doors down.  Her mom and I worked out a carpool agreement.  She dropped the kids off and I picked them up at the end of the day.

Charlotte is this beautiful, petite little thing with a feisty attitude.  (Love her.)  She is a year younger than Grant, but that doesn’t stop her from trying to run the show.

Trouble is, Grant isn’t always a willing participant.

Tuesday
Charlotte: It’s Girlfriend Day. Who is your girlfriend?
Grant: I don’t have a girlfriend.
Charlotte: You have to name one.  It’s Girlfriend Day and we’re at Pretend School.
Grant: I don’t have a girlfriend.  I don’t want a girlfriend.   I don’t want to play this game.

Pause. Charlotte decides to go the direct route.

Charlotte: Grant, you’re cute.
Grant: (in a total, No-Duh tone of voice) Well, yeah... I’m seven.

Wednesday
Charlotte was singing… long, warbling, high pitched notes of nonsense lyrics:  I’m an old laaaaaaaady!  I have Angel Priiiiiiiiide!  I have a Baby’s Jump Rope and I am the jar of peanut buh-ter on the coun-ter….
Grant: (totally dead-pan) “OK.  You’re freakin’ me out.”

Thursday
They were singing a song where the only lyric was “the genie with a dirty mind”... (the geeeeenie with a dirty myyyyyyyy-ind!)  (Don’t ask me, I have no idea.)

Charlotte suddenly stops singing and says to Grant “You’re really cuh-uuuuuuute.”
Grant, all matter-of-fact says: “Well, you’re really weird.”

Then they went back to singing.

I think they are both really cute and are both really weird.

I think they are just cute! 🙂 Let’s not remind me that my boys will have girlfriends one day. I can’t even think about it!

The candid conversations of kids are just the best entertainment. (Candid Camera, anyone?) It’s also fun to remind them of these days when they’re older. Parental bonus. 🙂
