Make your own Stridex-type cleansing pads.

November 17, 2011 12 Comments

I have four boys.
Three of them are teenagers.  (Two of them are extremely active.)
None of them are terribly keen on skincare regimens.

My good friend Raquel mentioned that she heard of taking ordinary baby wipes and pouring witch hazel over the stack of wipes and using them to wipe down greasy faces.

I pondered this for a while.  Witch hazel is fabulous stuff.  Here’s a great list of 15 uses for it, but it is primarily used for skin care.  That’s my primary focus as far as its many uses.

I didn’t like the idea of baby wipes already pre-moistened with something, but I thought the general concept was a good one.

I bought a little jar at the Dollar Store that had a tightly sealing lid.  Target had plain cotton pads and witch hazel in their pharmacy section.

Combine them all and you’ve got really good Stridex-type cleansing pads, but without the price and the harsh ingredients.  All for less than the cost of a latte.  It sits on their bathroom counter, so it’s easy for them to see and remember to use (when I nag them about it.)

Thanks for the inspiration Raquel!

So much cheaper than the skin care regimen I have going with my girls. I think we bankrolled our dermatologist last vacation!

That is such a fantastic idea. Another one I would have never thought of!

PS I am bringing my extension cord with me to SNAP. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to fold it like your husband does. I am folding challenged apparently. (Just kidding on bringing the extension cord, sorta)
