My son weighs in on Ricki Lake’s birth plan….

November 14, 2011 21 Comments

Ricki Lake is famous for several things, but one of her more recent projects was to film the birth of her baby… in a bathtub… in her apartment… with a midwife.  I’m not going to provide any social commentary here. (cough, cough, epidural!, cough, cough) To each, her own.

Last week, Handsome Hubby and I were watching TV with our son, Conner.  A commercial came on for Dancing With The Stars.  We don’t follow the show and this seemed like a long promo gearing up for the finale. The remaining “stars” were basically having a little smack-down about who was going to win.

Ricki Lake was one of the remaining contestants, looking straight into the camera, she said, “I gave birth, on my own, in my bathtub.  That just shows you how driven I am!”

Conner said: “pfft.  That just shows that she doesn’t have good time management skills.”

bwahahahaahaha!
I almost peed my pants I was laughing so hard! The kid cracks me up!

It is his birthday today.  He is 15 and I can’t believe how fast the time goes.

To hear about Conner’s wacky birth story, and how I almost had to have him at home (not by choice, I can assure you) and that the doctor left the delivery room needing a shower and some therapy…. click here.

Happy birthday Conner! I’m super proud of the man you’re becoming, and I love you more than words can say.

    Happy Birthday Connor!

I watched her have that baby in the bathtub and it’s nothing to brag about!

The woman that gave birth in the middle of the living room. That was impressive.

That is one of the things I love most in my sons, their wicked good sense of humour.
It has probably stopped me from throttling them on several occasions.
    Happy Birthday to Conner.

Happy Birthday Conner! Glad you weren’t born at home in a bath tub. O.K., Ricki Lake, does she even resemble the same kid that was in the original “Hairspray” movie? She looks like she has plasticated someone else’s face on hers. And don’t get me started on the outfit that looks like she stole someone’s fringy curtains. Yikes!

Happy birthday to the lad! They grow scarily fast, don’t they? And yes, finding genuine wit in your own kids is an unexpected and delightful bonus of parenthood.

What it is about baby boys? Both of mine were in such a hurry I nearly had them in the ambulance…

I believe he is right. Poor time management is probably right.

I consider my greatest achievement as a mother to be the fact that all three of my boys–who’ve lived through some hard times in their lives, I must say–HAVE A GREAT SENSE OF HUMOR. Hallelujah! Thank you, Lord, for boys who can laugh–at themselves, at me, at our family, at anything. I think I’d like Conner!

    Happy Birthday to him!

I only accept feats of strength and willpower stories on childbirth from women who have no other choice but to give birth in odd ways. Like women too late to the hospital and have to give birth in the back of VW Beetle. Now that takes moxie and a large bucket of flexibility.

That’s funny and a very typical man response…time management is one of my hubbies favorite phrases to throw around when I’m over-extended.

    Happy birthday Conner!
