I love decorating for Christmas! The season is so special to me that I want to decorate everything! I obsessively and impulsively buy Christmas ornaments through out the year. (I might have a little Christmas Ornament Problem… I’m trying to get help)

It’s a sickness. I can’t help it. But would it make a difference if I told you I got all of this for just $45..? |
However, I DO NOT, repeat, do not set it all out each year. There is a huge difference between decorating for the holidays and having Christmas throw up in your house.
The most important word here? Edit.
Every year I choose a color scheme and I stick to it. This is very easy for me to do because I store my Christmas decorations by color. It may sound rather OCD, but I promise you it is so much easier to get just a few boxes out each season, rather than get them all out and paw through them looking for what you want. I’d like to share the past few Christmases with you….
2010 – Silver & White
It’s white and bright, but is still very warm and soft. Don’t be afraid to use non-traditional elements in your decor. (I used white feathers and rice on a few things…) By sticking to just one or two colors you can actually incorporate moreinto your decor without it seeming chaotic to the eye.
2009 – Black & Gold
The black spire ornament in the center square was the inspiration for the entire holiday. I found it at a 2008 Christmas clearance sale and I bought it. I kept an eye out the entire year for items to use that upcoming Christmas. I seriously had 12 months to dream about it. Handsome Hubby was very skeptical when I first told him about it, but he ended up liking it quite a bit.
(As we go back the next few years, please know that I wasn’t photographing my decor with the intent of sharing it on my blog, so the photos will not be as detailed or of the best quality… cuz I wasn’t trying too hard.)
2008 – Red
This was just simple and cozy. And easy.
2007 – Copper & Light Green
Darn you automatic flash! This color combo was so unexpected and so whimsical! It remains one of my favorites.
2006 – Blue & Silver
Blue, silver and white… just frosty and pretty.
Changing colors has become a tradition. This year? I promised handsome Hubby that we would go the traditional route this year… Red &; Green. I feel like I spread holiday cheer for my family and friends by going all out with my decor… but it is also a gift I give to myself.
Oh My! There’s another person out there like me! Hooray! I also coordinate and store everything by color in the attic! I start decorating on November 1st. How about you, when do you start?
Hi Helen! I usually start decorating the weekend after Thanksgiving, but often have my colors picked out a year prior to Christmas. 🙂
