Mother’s Day: The food, the family, and the funny.

May 16, 2012 9 Comments

Our annual Mother’s Day Brunch was a bit smaller than usual, but it was still filled with love, laughter and some really good food.  I know some people think it’s a bit unusual that I (a mom) want to have hostessing/cooking duties on Mother’s Day, but I enjoy it.

Me and my beautiful mom.  Love her!!

It is so fun to have friends and family join us for a few hours and kick back, relax with a glass of champagne or a Bloody Mary and just enjoy each other.

And did I mention…? Food.

My Aunt Angie and…  1.) Baked Eggs in a Bacon-wrapped Polenta Crust (recipe HERE) 2.) Chicken Fried Steak with Country Gravy; 3.) fresh fruit; 4.) Fresh Baked Scones using these mixes; 5.) Pear & Cream Cheese Stuffed French Toast

The food is always so yummy!  Handsome Hubby will be sharing the recipe and tutorial for making his fabulous Chicken Fried Steak very soon.  My dad is a good ‘ole boy from Texas and he loves HH’s version.

Family is important too.

HH and the boys put a lot of thought and effort into cards and gifts.
Grant made a special art project with a lovely note and a key chain.

He worked hard on the project and was very excited to give it to me.  He even helped me open it. I love that kid!
(I am special because I am “the only girl in the house”…)

HH cracked me up, getting me a card where he underlined my attributes and questioned the areas where I am, um, lacking a bit.

Conner gave me one of his fabulous homemade cards, where he called me valiant, imaginative and a Grammar Nazi all in one card, and Devin wrote a very touching note.  Everything was so very sweet.

I love my kids so much!

Mitchell is always with his mom on Mother’s Day, but I love him as one of my own too!

It was just a great, relaxing day.

I shared how I made my hanging photo centerpiece here.

Hope everyone had a lovely day and loved on the Moms in your life.  How did you celebrate mom?

I’m with Myya over here in tears at you crying. Sounds like such a beautiful day filled with special people and fun times. Rondell likes grilling on Father’s Day too so I completely understand.

I love your tradition but one thing was lacking…I did not see my picture hanging from the ceterpiece anywhere. Perhaps the wind was blowing and it was facing the back when you took the picture.

One day your boys will make superior husbands because of the example HH is setting for them.

    OMG, Shawn!! LOL
Seriously, you need to frame the notes they gave you and the last picture.

Did you tell all of the Mom’s to wear your two favorite colors?

Or does that just run in your family?

    Now I’m hungry…..
