Support the USO and our troops with the #ComfortsFromHome Project

October 23, 2014 Leave a Comment

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Marie Callender’s for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

My father served our country in the Marine Corps. (22 years – Master Gunnery Sergeant – Semper Fi!) and we have many friends and family memebers who have served in the US Military, so I have always had a deep appreciation and respect for those who serve.  However, it is only recently that I have come to fully understand and appreciate all the at the USO does for our troops, now that my son is serving.

Devin joined the Navy back in April of 2013 and has been gone at boot camp and in the Navy’s Nuke school for a year.  Granted, he is not serving overseas or in a hostile area, but he is still thousands of miles away from home and working hard.  I can only imagine how much it means to the men and women who are serving on the other side of the world to get support and a few comforts of home, courtesy of the USO.

This fall, Marie Callender’s launched the Comforts From Home project by bringing the comforts of home to those who protect America’s homes every day: the brave men and women of the U.S. military.

We already buy Marie Callender’s entrees and keep them on hand. The boys love them and there is quite a variety to choose from. On the nights that I can’t cook (or everyone has a wacky schedule) it is great that I can tell them to “fend” and know that they’ll eat real food.

We tried the Roasted Turkey Breast with Stuffing and the Slow Roasted Beef. Both were really quite good and the boys loved them. Tasty turkey, tender beef, well seasoned potatoes and some veggies… a total hit.

There are plenty of enterees and desserts, but be sure to look for the specially marked packages to support the USO and our troops through the USO2GO program. USO2GO is a USO program that brings kits filled with electronics, sports gear, books, games, etc to troops stationed in remote locations around the world.

Each kit helps to transform a remote base into a place where troops can organize a pick-up football game, relax in beanbag chairs and swap stories, or send e-mails to loved ones back home… in general, to have a few of the comforts of home that we can all too easily take for granted.

You can help by purchasing the participating products and entering the code found on the packaging. For every entry by 1/31/2015 of an 8-digit code found on participating products, Marie Callender’s will donate $.50 to the USO2GO program. Guaranteed minimum donation: $100,000. Maximum donation: $250,000. Limit 5 code entries per person/computer each day. Valid in U.S. Only.
