Outdoor decor: Using pumpkins, gourds and fall foliage to brighten up your outdoor space.

September 21, 2011 38 Comments

We ripped out a whole bunch of hedges underneath our bedroom window.  There is a strange window “shelf” there that has been difficult to get to or to do anything with.

When I found this tall hurricane lantern at Home Goods I had to snap it up.

hurricane lantern, black metal lantern

The fact that it was on clearance for $10 because all of the glass had been busted out made it perfect.

I knew immediately that I was going to shove a bunch of pumpkins and a bird in it and set it on that weird shelf.

While nothing is going to totally distract from the fact that we have a bare flower bed right outside our front door, at least the shelf looks a bit better.

I stacked pumpkins in varying heights and colors, then wedged a Dollar Tree crow onto the largest one.

Then I just piled up more pumpkins and berries and autumn what-nots around the hurricane.

pumpkins, gourds, fall decor, outdoor, decor,

As I said, it won’t distract people from the bare dirt underneath is, but at least it looks a little bit better.

Right?  Please tell me it looks at least a little better than dirt. Please…

I looks good to me. I love the flagstone beneath the bench and since I’m more of a simpleton when it comes to flower gardens I like it just the way it is!

Looks great! I would probably put this inside on a table or sideboard.

I have a feeling that we are going to be seeing this lantern again! 😉 Money well spent.

I think it looks fantastic Vivienne! I honestly don’t really notice the bare flower bed especially with the bench and the flagstone and the pumpkin extravaganza on that shelf! 🙂 Love it!

Honestly I clicked over from twitter BECAUSE i wanted to see your ugly garden beds. LOL. Take heart: your bare dirt looks so much better than my overgrown mess of a garden. I love the fall vignette you created…so inviting! Happy Fall 🙂

This is so cute! And I don’t even know what “bare dirt” you seem to be stressing over. Between the little bench that’s there and the cuteness on the shelf I didn’t notice anything else.

Dontch just LOVE Homegoods? What a deal you got on this lantern. I need to go check my Homegoods and see if there are any left! If anyone sees your post today, there won’t be any! Your fall decoration is awesome. No worries on the flower beds, I didn’t even notice! Besides, they look fine.

Thank you so much for linking up to my 1st Linky Party Vivienne. I’m a follower now on your blog and so enjoy it! Can’t wait to see what you do next.

So love this!!! I don’t notice anything wrong at all beneath it. Looks so good. How long do your pumpkins usually last? Is there anything you spray on them to last longer?

As my daughter’s friends say….”That’s totes adorbs!!”

(I have no idea why they can’t use entire words???)

I love this look!!! What a pretty display!! You are really good at arranging…I know that because I am decidedly not!!

Also, the color and action going on on the shelf takes your eyes off the what isn’t going on below. Totally awesome draw-the-eye-away-like-a-magician thing goin’ on!! 🙂

Score on the HomeGoods lantern and good eye going for it even without the glass. Smart cookie 😉 The flower bed looks great. CUTE even, with the bench and flag stone and all the pretty Fall decor. It all looks extra pretty with the white backround.

Your shelf is decorated so beautifully you don’t notice anything else. Great deal on the hurricane, the glass is hard to keep clean if using outside. You don’t even notice the glass is missing. Great idea! Love your blog too.
