A cute St. Patrick’s Day craft with Amanda from Craft Gossip.

March 12, 2012 4 Comments

You guys, can I just tell you that I do not know if my heart can take much more of this stress!!!
Two weeks ago the doctors told my ex-husband that he had mere days left.  I pulled Conner out of school and rushed him and Devin to their dad’s bedside.  Mike is hanging on and the boys pretty much haven’t left his side.  For two weeks.  We are all emotionally exhausted (and there is other family stress going on simultaneously).  When it rains, it pours.

Not surprisingly, I haven’t had time to/felt like blogging.  Fortunately, fabulous bloggers are jumping in to help me.  I have described it as being the online equivalent of bringing me and my family a casserole when they know I’m too frazzled to cook.  Today the fabulous Amanda is here to help me and to share a fun St. Patrick’s Day craft with you.  Enjoy!

Hi all, I’m Amanda from Crafts by Amanda. You may also know me from Craft Gossip where I am the editor for the Home & Garden channel. I’m also the owner of Fun Family Crafts, Amanda’s Cookin’ and The Secret Recipe Club Phew! I’ve been around a while and have been crafting for as long as I can remember. One of my side gigs is as a designer for DecoArt. Recently I made this Shamrock Plant Poke for Michael’s Craft Stores highlighting their economical paint line called Craftsmart.

To make this shamrock plant poke I used wooden hearts, a wooden down, Craftsmart paint and finished it off with some multi purpose sealer. You could absolutely use whatever your favorite paint brand is!

The complete list of supplies:

4 Wood Hearts 1-3/4-inch
Wood Disc 1-inch
12-inch wooden dowel
Orange button
Green sheer ribbon
Hot glue gun
White craft glue
Scrap of green felt
Gold glitter
Multi Purpose Sealer
Americana acrylic spray sealer

Craftsmart paint colors:
Bronze
Grass Green
Light Green
Gold

Paint the four hearts with Light Green.

Use the handle end of the 4 Round paintbrush to dot on Grass Green around the border of each heart.

Use the handle end of the 4 Round paintbrush to dot on Gold around the border of each heart below the Grass Green. Use the handle end of the 4 Round paintbrush to dot on Bronze around the border of each heart below the Gold. Coat all the hearts with Multi Purpose Sealer.

Place a piece of paper or waxed paper on the work surface. Glue the four heart together with white craft glue, connecting them to create a shamrock shape.

Paint the wood disc with Bronze. Glue the orange button to the Bronze disc. Glue the disc and button to the center of the 4 hearts. Allow hearts and disc to partially dry.

Paint the dowel Gold. Spray the dowel with Americana sealer and sprinkle with gold glitter. Cut a scrap of green felt, about the size of a quarter.

Carefully lift the shamrock and use white craft glue to attach the dowel to the back and cover it with the green felt circle.

Thanks for letting me hang out with you today at The V-Spot! If you’d like to visit me head over to Crafts by Amanda, follow me on Twitter and Pinterest, and check me out on Facebook. Thanks Viv!

No, no Amanda… thank YOU.
