On Monday I shared that I would be appearing at my local Michaels store this coming Sunday (just like 99 other Hometalk bloggers across the country) and making fun projects at a Pinterest Party. I am going to be making another project on Sunday, but I wanted to share a fun little project I whipped up today. I love this birdcage planter and plan to make several more in varying sizes.
Sometimes, simple just works out so great!
I bought a cute birdcage at Michaels and also picked up a few plain terra cotta pots and some fun paint. I had some cute houndstooth scrapbook paper and Mod Podge as well, so I got busy making a silver metallic flower pot with houndstooth trim.
This part is stupid-easy. Paint the entire pot with your metallic paint and let dry. Cut a strip of paper to fit the rim of the pot and brush on the Mod Podge. Carefully wrap the strip of paper around the pot, lining it up evenly and smoothing it as you go. Apply another coat of Mod Posge over the top of it and let dry. When the pot is dry, you can add in your succulents, whether they are real or artificial. Mine are real. (And they’re spectacular.)
The next step is to take a little sheet moss and put it around the edges of the birdcage and then carefully nestle the pot down in it. If you don’t have sheet moss, you could also use burlap, artificial succulents or other greenery, a little bird’s nest… whatever you want.
I placed this sweet little birdcage on top of one of my temporary pedestal plates and it’s done. Easy.
I hope to see you this Sunday at Michaels in Long Beach, CA… but remember that every Michaels across the country has a craft room, and 100 of them will have a Hometalk blogger in there, helping you to take ideas off of Pinterest and to make them yourself!
You can follow Michaels on Hometalk, and if you do, you’ll be entered to win a $100 gift card to Michaels.
So this coming Sunday, grab a coupon and head over to your local Michaels store.
I hope to see you there! Here are lots more projects to inspire you to get creative!
Happy crafting
Love your planter, Viv!
Really lovely! 🙂
Thank you so much for putting together this link party! You’re a doll.
