Halloween decor: setting the scene with candles.

September 7, 2015 2 Comments

I realize that we are still in the middle of September… but that doesn’t mean my thoughts aren’t elsewhere – like on Halloween.  It is one of my favorite holidays and I am itching to start putting up my fall and Halloween decor.  Sometimes, that starts with getting the house to smell more like fall, or in this case: Halloween.

I received this yummy Yankee Candle and spooky glass shade last week and am totally getting in the mood for my Halloween decorating.  The candle is called “Happy Halloween”  and it smells like Halloween from my childhood… black licorice jelly beans, anise and cloves.  So yummy.  It was enough to make one of the kids ask “are you decorating for Halloween now…?”  Just based on the fragrance.   (Now that’s a good candle.)

The gorgeous crackle glass shade fits right over the top of the candle jar and have fun and spooky silhouettes.

I’ve been thinking about how I am going to start decorating and have been drawing a little inspiration from a few Halloweens gone by. Candles are always a big part of the decor and ambiance. I DIY a lot of my Halloween decor and whenever I set up my vignettes, I almost always incorporate candlelight.

Halloween mantel in black, white and silver

I am a stickler for keeping Halloween colors to black, white and orange. I always throw in some metallic silver for just a bit of sparkle. When you are lighting the room by candle, it helps to have something luminous and twinkly for the candlelight to reflect off of.  Our mantel usually gets decorated with these black and white elements

There is a little shelf right outside our front door and I really  like to decorate it for the holidays.  It is far enough removed from the walkway that I don’t worry about little trick-or-treaters coming in contact with the candles.  I can create a spooky, welcoming entry and have it be totally safe.  And because Yankee Candle has so many amazing scents, I can welcome guests with delish fragrances that represent the season.

I love how you used your shade, it’s so fun! Your past Halloween displays are great, looks like you have a lot of fun with them.
