Want to make your own scented, layered jar candles?  Want to do it, using items you already have on hand..?  Practically for free..? It’s easy! I have a little problem…. you know those candles you buy that smell amazing, but the wick burns down through the middle of them and you’re left with a bunch […]

November 12, 2012 9 Comments

When a big wind storm blew a ton of bark off our tree, I decided to upcycle some glass jars and make tree bark hurricane lanterns and candle holders.

Make hanging lanterns out of empty glass jars.

November 6, 2012 4 Comments

The other week I shared how I fixed chewed up, grody planters and then made lit, spider topiaries for them.  As promised, here’s how I made the hanging lanterns for the center, just using empty glass jars. We all have eleventy billion empty jars laying around, right?  Here’s a simple way to get another use […]

Spooky Spider Candleholders

October 31, 2012 4 Comments

OK, the last Halloween craft of the year from me, and it’s a quickie.  I’m pretty sure you have all of the supplies in your house already. Ready?  You will need a pretty glass bottle (I love empty Patron bottles!) or a nice looking empty jar.  (If you use a jar, you will want the mouth of […]

Upcycle: easy DIY faux hammered metal planters (with spider web topiaries.)

October 26, 2012 5 Comments

I needed something tall to flank each side of our front door. Since I’m a symmetry girl, I wanted them to match. This is what I came up with: these faux hammered metal planters. And just for funzies, (since it’s Halloween and all) I thought a spiderweb topiary or two would be kind of cool.

A floor Candelabra for Halloween.

October 22, 2012 24 Comments

Last year, Sandra from Sawdust & Paper Scraps made a very cool Halloween candelabra, and I really, really wanted to make one too, but didn’t get around to it.  (I met Sandra at The Haven Conference last June, and I must confess I have quite the Girl Crush on her… she is awesome!) Sandra’s is a fab tutorial on […]

Saving tired old flower pots with textured spray paint.

September 26, 2012 3 Comments

They aren’t replanted yet, but today I wanted to show you how I saved a couple of old flower pots. I have a couple of planters that have been around here for quite a while.  I like the style of them, and I have repainted them several times over in order to get more life […]

Turn old shopping bags into gift bags. A paper craft DIY.

September 19, 2012 15 Comments

We all have them… a stash of shopping bags. It bugs me that they are usually the perfect size for a gift bag, but you can’t very well give the gift of Legos and put them in a Ann Taylor bag, now can you?  (Because that would be weird.) Fortunately, it’s totally possible to turn […]
