Always carry a corkscrew, and the wine will provide itself.

January 9, 2010 20 Comments

I love can’t live without enjoy a glass (or two) of wine each night. What I really love? Sharing a bottle of wine with Handsome Hubby.

Whenever we do this, I consider it a special occasion. Therefore, each time we open a bottle together (and finish it together) I save the cork.

I keep them in one of the apothecary jars in my kitchen window. Because I have such clear criteria for what makes a cork worthy of the jar, there aren’t all that many in there.

I label them with the date, and what we were doing when we opened that particular bottle. Corks from date night at a nice restaurant jostle for position with corks from a Tuesday night of air hockey on our patio.

Every once in a while we pull them out and read them. It’s fun to reminisce about them.

My favorite one is from a Saturday afternoon when we were working in our backyard. We just quit in the middle of our project, went inside and cooked an Italian meal together. For lunch.
Pretty much anytime you open a bottle of wine with a loved one it’s a special occasion. Opening one and celebrating the everyday is priceless.
What do you do to celebrate the everyday?

I love this idea. When we were dating and married we used to collect matchbooks to remind us of all the restaurants, weddings, and parties we went to. That was quite a while ago and matches have all but disappeared. Wine corks would be a lot more fun 🙂

I remember being younger & my Grammy doing this. She even saved the corks from when they would take each of us kids out to dinner for our Birthday & she would write our name & our new age on it. She made these amazing corkboards out of them. I love the jar you use – it just looks like a special treasure should be inside!

Oh, love it! I have a huge bag of corks that I bought at a yard sale with the same intent. {I don’t like wine–I know, I know}. But I have yet to put all of mine out. I love yours!!

I LOVE that apothecary too! Where did you get it?

Seriously, if I kept all the corks, I would have to move.

Once upon a time I decorated a wreathe with corks. It was very cool. Wonder what happened to it?

That is soooo romantic! I started doing that but we haven’t shared a bottle of wine in a long time. He’s a martini man.

Too bad hubby is a beer man….I guess in Texas, a apothecary jar filled with beer caps is cool though….

I love this idea! I saved a few corks I thought were cool for one reason or another, but I never thought about using them to record events. I’m going to start doing this too=)

This is such a great idea! My hubby and I do not drink wine but beer. I don’t think that would look so good in an apothecary jar! Your kitchen window area is so pretty!!

Oh! I love this one. We have some corks from special occasions, but never had ‘criteria’ for what was saved. I think I’m going to steal yours 🙂 And the italian meal in the middle of the day? Precious.
