Birthday Bacon

August 26, 2010 19 Comments

I almost never cooked bacon when the kids were younger.

It isn’t exactly good for you, it splatters and makes a mess when you cook it, etc. I did not realize how infrequently I cooked it until one day a 5 year old Devin came to me and asked me if he could have some of that “up down food.” This request was accompanied by a hand gesture that mimicked waves, undulating up and down. The poor kid had an extensive vocabulary, yet he didn’t know the word for bacon.

Fast forward 13 years. My baby just turned 18. Due to several scheduling conflicts, we opted for a morning celebration.

Instead of a birthday cake…? Two pounds of Birthday Bacon.

Contemplating his birthday wish. I can only assume that he wished for more processed meats.

I am so proud of the smart, funny, handsome young man my baby has become.

We love him to pieces.

However, I do agree with the birthday message one of his brothers left for him on the fridge…

And these Bacon Chocolate Chip Cookies are a hit every time I make them.

What a handsome guy! My 10 year old daughter wanted bacon for her bday breakfast this past May. Funny. I don’t cook bacon that much either but it sure is good. But I just can’t get on the bacon/chocolate band wagon. It just sounds gross to me. You will have to post about the cookies if you try them.
