An easy way to turn your everyday wall art into something festive.

December 20, 2011 11 Comments

The things that work with my everyday decor sometimes just won’t work at Christmas time.  For example, I love the Family Rules art piece that hangs over the buffet in our dining room, and come October, its orange color is a perfect pairing with the black and silver of my Halloween decor.

However, when Christmas rolls around, um, not so much.  It’s heavy and it’s big (2′ x 3′) and is the focal point of the room.  Last year I just whipped up a new art piece.

I love how it worked with last year’s frost white and silver color scheme.

This year is traditional red, green and gold and I decided to go simple.

I just covered it with burlap and added a wreath.
I secured the burlap with Duck Tape and looped a ribbon over the top and taped it onto the back too.   It doesn’t matter if it is a piece of plywood like this or if it is a professionally framed piece of “real” art… the principle is the same.
A wreath on either side gives me some simple symmetry and soothes any OCD flare-ups I might have.
By the way, these wreaths are all fake guys.  I’ll show you tomorrow how I make them look real, without any work or spending any money.

You and your OCD crack me up! But it is serving you well. I’m big on balancing myself. What you have shared of your home looks amazing. Can’t imagine how you store so much and so many colors and designs. Do you ever have so much paint on an object from recycling it that you just have to replace it or do you just crackle and call it a day? Thanks for taking the time for sharing. Merry Christmas!

You just amaze me with your ability to “whip things up” like it’s nothing. This looks fantastic. As always! Merry Merry Christmas to you and yours.

In May, can we all watch you do a craft project? You may be my hero. I’m doing good to get all my Christmas stuff out of the attic. I don’t have the patience to change out my colors every year. I think I’m kinda lazy.

    Thanks for linking up!!

Love that you change up your wall decor– I think I get stuck sometimes, feeling limited by what’s hanging. Thanks for the spark of inspiration, Viv!
