I shared this simple tip over at I {Heart} Naptime last week.   It’s an easy way to help keep your little people from getting burned by one of the holiday season’s most common treats: hot cocoa. Have you ever burned your tongue?  Of course you have.  It hurts, and it would be preventable if you […]
My son weighs in on Ricki Lake’s birth plan….
Ricki Lake is famous for several things, but one of her more recent projects was to film the birth of her baby… in a bathtub… in her apartment… with a midwife. Â I’m not going to provide any social commentary here. (cough, cough, epidural!, cough, cough) To each, her own. Last week, Handsome Hubby and I […]
Dutch Ovens. Not just for camping anymore.
Do you have a Dutch Oven? Â Ever cook with one? Me neither. But Handsome Hubby has one, and he has cooked several delicious dishes in it. Â We usually take it camping with us and he made us an amazing apple pie in it one year. Â It was so good! The Food Network has great Dutch […]
Linguine with Clam Sauce.
This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Carapelli for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine. I am Italian.  I rarely cook with any oil other than olive oil.  Not only does it lend a better flavor to your food, it has healthy fats, anti-oxidents and helps to control LDL (bad) cholesterol while raising […]
Favorite Songs: Grant shares his Top 4.
Scene: driving Grant to his football game last night.  I am punching through radio stations, looking for a good song.  Grant pipes up from the back seat… Grant: “Mom, do you want to know what my favorite song is?  Born To Be Wild!” Me: “oooo! Nice one!” Grant: “And also? No Sleep Til Brooklyn.” Me: “The […]
Happy Veteran’s Day to my favorite Bad-Ass. Semper Fi.
This is my dad. He spent 22 years in the Marine Corps, but as I understand it, he’ll always be a Marine. He retired as an E9 Master Gunnery Sargent.  I guess that’s as high as you can go as an enlisted officer.  (He’s a really big deal.)  We went to a Marine Corps Ball one […]
Grant has a discerning palate. Who’d a thought…?
I made a little dessert to take to a friend’s house for Halloween night. It was very, very, very sweet. Too sweet for me, but I figured the boys would eat them. Grant had one. Â A little while later I offered him another one. Grant: “No thanks.” Me: “Don’t you like it?” Grant: “No, it’s […]
Spray painted metallic pumpkins. (Take Halloween pumpkins into Thanksgiving.)
I know Halloween is over, but don’t toss out the pumpkins!!! OK, jack-o-lanterns should all be gone by now, but any whole pumpkins you have laying around can carry you through Thanksgiving and into the first couple of days in December. You can make these shimmery metallic pumpkins by breaking the spray painting rules.
Second Grade Plagiarism
The epic Battle of the Homework takes place on a regular basis at our house. Grant is good at math and he seems to enjoy the subject, so the math assignments get done quickly and easily. He is also good at reading and language arts, but he does NOT enjoy those subjects, so those assignments […]
Spray paint takes Halloween into Thanksgiving…
I usually hate my mantel, but for Halloween I was pretty happy with it. I really liked all of the elements and the balance the large Raven artwork helped to create for the champagne bucket full of black sticks. Â Obviously I can’t leave the Raven up there, so I will need to find something else […]
