Upcycle an old bottle to make a dish soap dispenser.

June 2, 2012 9 Comments

I know, I know, this has been done before.  But I finally did it and made one: A more decorative dispenser for our dish soap. This post contains affiliate links. Yes, we have a dishwasher, but there are still several items that need to be hand-washed and I didn’t like the plastic bottle sitting by the […]

A DIY, personalized wedding or anniversary gift for less than $20

May 21, 2012 70 Comments

This might be a little silly (or a bit TMI) for some folks, but I think it’s cute. Today I’m going to show you how to make an easy piece of “couples” artwork for less than $20 and in under an hour (not counting drying time.) I think this “Spooning” artwork would be very cute […]

Wallpaper For Windows solved a marital dispute. (Truly a versatile product!)

April 10, 2012 35 Comments

Handsome Hubby and I have been butting heads over our garage. Not only about whose mess/clutter is on whose side of the garage, and who has more crap than the other, etc.  but also about the windows in our garage.  I hate that you can pull up into our driveway and see what is inside, […]

Make weathered, shabby chic flower pots using spray paint & candle wax.

February 8, 2012 38 Comments

I’m on a faux-finishing kick at the moment.  Last week I showed you how to make a faux rust effect using spray paint and salt.   Today I wanted to show you how to create the look of those chippy, weathered, shabby chic flower pots and other garden items.  Have you priced them?  Crazy!  I […]

Spray painted metallic pumpkins. (Take Halloween pumpkins into Thanksgiving.)

pumpkin, spray paint, metallic

I know Halloween is over, but don’t toss out the pumpkins!!! OK, jack-o-lanterns should all be gone by now, but any whole pumpkins you have laying around can carry you through Thanksgiving and into the first couple of days in December. You can make these shimmery metallic pumpkins by breaking the spray painting rules.

More Pumpkin foolishness…. Necktie Pumpkins

October 24, 2011 26 Comments

Today we’re recovering pumpkins with  neckties! I picked up a couple of neckties at Goodwill that I thought would fit in with my Halloween decor. I used a seam ripper to dismantle them and a rotary cutter to cut them into strips. With a dab of hot glue on the bottom of the pumpkins, I […]

Make faux Mercury Glass pumpkins out of Dollar Store cheesiness.

October 4, 2011 35 Comments

Another Dollar Store pumpkin transformation… faux Mercury Glass. This is sooooo dang easy. Take a cheesy fake pumpkin… Spray it black. Immediately, while it is still wet, lightly spray it with metallic silver paint. Krylon has a good one. This is outdoor paint, but any silver paint will do. Spraying the silver paint onto the […]

OK, I told ya I was on a pumpkin binge right now. I made a flannel covered pumpkin, a punker pumpkin, some pumpkin house numbers and now…  a Zebra Striped Pumpkin.  I may, in fact, have a bit of a pumpkin problem. Thanks to zebra print duct tape, this entire process took me about 3 […]

A plaid pumpkin? From a thrift shop flannel shirt? Yep!

I was in the Dollar Tree the other day and I picked up a few of those cheesy fake pumpkins.  There is also a Goodwill a few doors down… so of course I had to stop in.  (If I were a dog and Goodwill was a fire hydrant, there would be no way I could […]
