Even though stores are ready for Christmas in July, I can’t bring myself to put up a single decoration before December 1st. This easy centerpiece helps me transition from fall to winter.

Quick changes for the Thanksgiving mantel. (Decor that does double duty)

November 5, 2012 4 Comments

Thanksgving, white shutters, leaves, autumn, mercury glass, artwork, orange, fall

I love to change up my mantel for the seasons. A way to do this quickly is to decorate using items that are easily interchangeable or are reversible. Double sided artwork and a little spray paint can make it happen in just a few minutes.

Spooky Spider Candleholders

October 31, 2012 4 Comments

OK, the last Halloween craft of the year from me, and it’s a quickie.  I’m pretty sure you have all of the supplies in your house already. Ready?  You will need a pretty glass bottle (I love empty Patron bottles!) or a nice looking empty jar.  (If you use a jar, you will want the mouth of […]

The Great Halloween Party Wrap Up! (2012 edition)

October 29, 2012 15 Comments

Saturday night we had our third annual Halloween Party. Medusa & Perseus (except it wasn’t Perseus’ night…Medusa turned him to stone.) We invite friends to come in costume and ask them to BYOB and to bring a dish of some kind to share on the buffet table.  I used to try to do everything myself […]

Upcycle: easy DIY faux hammered metal planters (with spider web topiaries.)

October 26, 2012 5 Comments

I needed something tall to flank each side of our front door. Since I’m a symmetry girl, I wanted them to match. This is what I came up with: these faux hammered metal planters. And just for funzies, (since it’s Halloween and all) I thought a spiderweb topiary or two would be kind of cool.

The Halloween Mantel. For now.

October 19, 2012 6 Comments

My mantel is soooo hard to decorate.  It’s an asymmetrical wooden nightmare. I am still not happy with this, but it’ll do. I will probably continue to tweak it. I do like the sparkle of the mercury glass and silver, and I like the little ravens.  I’m still very enamored of the Raven artwork I did last […]

Halloween decor from the produce section…

…and I’m not talking pumpkins.  Garlic.  It keeps vampires away, right?  So you’re definitely going to want to have some around. I used this same little garlic/decor trick last year, and I wanted to do it again.  However, this year I knew I needed to glue the spiders to the garlic to ensure they stayed where […]

Re-cover chandelier shades with scrapbook paper.

October 10, 2012 4 Comments

Remember the upcycled lampshades I did with some cute fabric in the springtime?  It’s fall so I was ready for a change… but this time I didn’t use fabric, I used houndstooth scrapbook paper. I had paper left over from my DIY gift bags, and I thought it would be perfect for these chandy shades. […]
