I grounded Conner the other day. No phone, no light, no motor car – not a single luxury. I took away video games, TV and non-school related computer time. I don’t remember what he did, I just remember he had done it several times and I was fed up.
He called yesterday after school. “Can I go to a club meeting and then come home afterward?” Yes, that’s fine. I want the boys to get socially involved at school.
He comes in a little more than an hour later. Sweaty and smiling.
“Hey Conner! How’s it going? What club did you join?”
“I joined the Running Club with my friends! We ran two miles! It was so cool! I can’t wait to go back to school tomorrow!”
“That’s great, but what made you decide to join the Running Club?”
“Well since you grounded me, there’s nothing to do at home, so I figured I would run.”
I love that he thinks running is a way to get around a punishment, since I personally see running as punishment in and of itself.
