Middle school students are required to choose a reading book and keep it with them for English class. It’s called an SSR book. (I think it stands for Sustained Silent Reading or something like that.) To ensure that they remember to bring the book to class, the English teachers usually recommend that they just leave the book in their backpacks.
I had not asked Conner about his book, other than to confirm that he had one. Most 6th graders choose chapter books or short novels.
I just happened to spy Conner’s choice:
Brings new meaning to library book, especially given the fact that this is the same kid who has actually fallen asleep on the toilet.
