Do you have favorite toys and TV shows from your childhood? Of course you do.Β Me too.
I’ve mentioned previously that I was a total tomboy. I hated all things Barbie. I would occasionally play them with my sister, but only long enough to set up and organize Barbie’s household, then I didn’t want to play anymore. (oh, that used to bug her!)
I don’t have a memory of a specific toy, let alone have favorites.
I remember laying out my orange Hot Wheels tracks out in a row and tucking them in at night.
I remember being the only girl playing kickball with the boys out in the street.
I remember playing “War” our version of Cowboys & Indians.
I remember my Big Wheel and being super mad at my dad for disabling the little clicker that made noise when you pedaled. I had the only silent Big Wheel on the block.
I remember lots of coloring books and play-dough.
Every time I look at the scar on my wrist, I remember my first skateboard.
I remember watching TV and wanting to marry Speed Racer when I grew up. (Now watching him through the eyes of a grown up, it is clear that he is a whiny, helpless wimp with a very slow reaction time. Racer X was the guy I shoulda married!)
I remember Sesame Street and Kimba the White Lion.
Children in my age group committed rules of grammar and multiplication tables to memory, thanks to SchoolHouseRock. We learned to brush our teeth, lest we become Yuck Mouths.
Time For Timer taught me importance of cheese and other dairy products.
ABC After School Specials taught me about tolerance, the dangers of drugs, and whatever I do, I must not ever get pregnant! (There were no TiVos or VCRs, if we wanted to watch one of these we had to hurry home from school in order to do so!)
I remember watching children’s programming that was produced by Sid & Marty Krofft, two stoner brothers who took waaaaaaaaaaay too many drugs in the ’60s.
The Land of the Lost
(Believe it or not, this was just made into a Will Ferrel movie.)
H.R. Puffenstuff
Sigmond and the Sea Monsters
FYI – President Obama? He grew up watching these shows too… I’m just sayin’.
I thought Jimmy on HRPufnstuff was the livin’ end.
I SO wanted to be that flute.
(Freudian undertones abound.)
What a riot. I will now have to put extra thought into my post but for now this over stressed Momma is heading outside to soak up the healing rays that can only be offered by the sun!
Marshall Will and Holly…on a routine expedition…
love it….that and Electro Woman and Dyna-girl π
I loved all these shows!!!!
Thanks great post!!!!
Hi, You were a Tom Boy! I didn’t recognize many…maybe I’m too old??
I liked your addition of the videos!
Have a great day!
Awesome clips! My husband and I were just talking about Time For Timer. We remember him from Saturday morning cartoons.
Macey
I loved land of the lost! But Johnny Quest was my cartoon boy of choice!
I was actually a tom boy as well. I did love barbie though. But I grew up with brothers, and my next door neighbor cousins. One was a girl, but 4 were boys.
I grew up playing kick soccer, soft ball and football(yes tackle).
But also Barbie and roller skates and hula hoops with my one girl cousin were fun!
I also remember watching Land of the Lost.
I had a race track that I loved that had a remote start for the cars.
I didn’t love playing with dolls or barbie dolls but did enjoy the strawberry shortcake dolls.
Ooo, I <3 Speed Racer and Kimba the White Lion. π
Hey Miss- I’m feelin-old,
I remember all this too…
Even though I loved Barbies, I was still a tomboy- used to play in my neighbors trees and catch lizards to tear their tails off and see them wiggle around…morbid huh???
I loved your intro too…..what a great comparision to new neighbors!
Have a super week!

what a neat post! Thanks for the link to meeting new friends:)
Thank you for your comment on my blog! I think you’re right about my curtains. Darn it. I knew something wasn’t right. Now I will go and mess with em and post again. See what everything thinks!
π
Ha…you thought you were old? I am older than dirt!! Isn’t it funny that you were a Tomboy and now have boys to terrorize you? Great list!
I remember allll those shows. Thanks for a trip down memory lane π
xoxo Lisa
What great links and video! Oh my gosh those bring back so many memories. I was just thinking about some old ABC After School Specials the other day. I had seen a Youtube video of one and thought about how cheesy it was, but back in the day how cool I thought it was. (Is it even still cool to say the word ‘cool’? I’m not sure).
Hope you’re having a wonderful day!!
The funny part is I’ve had that “hanker for a hunk of cheese” jingle stuck in my mind for the last month or so. It just popped in one when I was grocery shopping & I haven’t been able to shake it since…then I see your post! Kismet!
What a funny list. The sweet joys of School House Rock.
ooooh do you remember PONG? I went and snuck it in on my blog π
I must say I don’t remember those shows (???) Guess I was too busy playin’ Barbies π
so sad that your dad wouldn’t let your big wheel make noise! it sounds like you may still be a tiny bit bitter about it. :o)
have a wonderful week!
I really enjoyed your post. Thanks for stopping by my blog. I really enjoyed all the TV shows you included, great addition!
I also had a Big Wheel. It was a Cabbage Patch kids Big Wheel! LOL!
afterschool specials were the best! shows with a lesson, love it! btw, that is the best intro for FMM that I’ve ever read.
Oh the memories. Oranges Poranges, Who Cares?
I loved both Barbies and Matchbox Cars equally. Now I think that is pretty weird. I was kind of messed up I guess. Or I just couldn’t make up my mind. Some things never change
so, how exactly do you get invited into this circle of friends, huh?
Awesome!!! I loved gettin’ dirty, skateboards, baseball, and mostly riding my ten speed bike!!! I loved the boy stuff too! But I did love girly things equally. What memories, it would be nice to be a kid again!!….for a second or two.:-) Have a great night!
Great post! I remember the clicker thingys on the Big Wheel! That’s what made them rock.
I hated Barbie, too. My friends used to get mad because I’d do the same thing as you..get them dressed up and then be done playing. It was far more fun to put them in the back of my big ole tonka dump truck and dump them in the mud hole. Just sayin’.
Ah yes, Land of the Lost! Where we lived it was always at the end of Saturday morning cartoon line-up!
Great list!
