Halloweenify your lampshades.

October 18, 2011 19 Comments

OK. I admit it.  I change out the lamps on my dining room buffet seasonally.  (Don’t you judge me! It could be worse! I could be addicted to handbags or shoes or seasonal dishes! Leemealone!) Anyhow, for Halloween, the black with the woven shades needed to go, and the silver with the white shades had […]

More Halloweenishness: a Dollar Store entry way.

October 17, 2011 20 Comments

There is a mirrored wall in our entry-way.  Me no likey.  However, Handsome Hubby won’t let me take them down or cover them.  It can be a challenge to decorate because everything is reflected and can look too busy. So in getting ready for Halloween, I chose to use light colors and a lot of […]

Using garlic in your Halloween decor – keep your pantry stocked AND keep vampires away.

October 14, 2011 32 Comments

Garlic was on my shopping list.  While shopping I noticed it was on sale, 3 for $1.  We love garlic and use it a lot. You know who doesn’t like garlic?  Vampires. So I stocked up and incorporated it into my Halloween decor. I had an apothecary jar that was holding big cinnamon sticks. I took […]

My Halloween wreath….all it’s missing is a whip.

October 6, 2011 34 Comments

My Halloweenishness knows no bounds.  (But I fear that my husband’s patience will soon run out if I don’t get my Halloween bins cleaned up and put away.) We had a rare California storm yesterday, so I worked on a couple of things inside the house… including my Halloween wreath.  I had took a regular […]

Make faux Mercury Glass pumpkins out of Dollar Store cheesiness.

October 4, 2011 35 Comments

Another Dollar Store pumpkin transformation… faux Mercury Glass. This is sooooo dang easy. Take a cheesy fake pumpkin… Spray it black. Immediately, while it is still wet, lightly spray it with metallic silver paint. Krylon has a good one. This is outdoor paint, but any silver paint will do. Spraying the silver paint onto the […]

Make cute Halloween party invitations for pennies (& without any real supplies or effort…)

October 3, 2011 18 Comments

I’m so excited that we’re having our Halloween Party again this year!  Last year’s was a blast and I am already starting preparations.  I sent out a save the date in the beginning of September, but now it’s time to send out the actual invitations. I am not an evite kind of girl. (Not that […]

The one where the dog messes up my “After” photos.

September 28, 2011 26 Comments

There is no need to hit the garden center to change up your flower pots.  Just give them a quick coat of paint! I have two flower pots that have layer upon layer of spray paint on them.  I dump the plants, paint the pots a new color for the new season, then replant them. […]

OK, I told ya I was on a pumpkin binge right now. I made a flannel covered pumpkin, a punker pumpkin, some pumpkin house numbers and now…  a Zebra Striped Pumpkin.  I may, in fact, have a bit of a pumpkin problem. Thanks to zebra print duct tape, this entire process took me about 3 […]

Outdoor decor: Using pumpkins, gourds and fall foliage to brighten up your outdoor space.

We ripped out a whole bunch of ugly hedges beneath a real problem area by our front door. By creating a nice vignette of fall elements like gourds, pumpkins and a raven, we were able to make an ugly spot look a little bit nicer.
