How to make your own DIY jar candles (using recycled jars and candle wax)

January 22, 2013 4 Comments

Want to make your own scented, layered jar candles?  Want to do it, using items you already have on hand..?  Practically for free..? It’s easy! I have a little problem…. you know those candles you buy that smell amazing, but the wick burns down through the middle of them and you’re left with a bunch […]

Make an easy scrap paper Christmas tree.

December 19, 2012 2 Comments

I wanted one more little Christmas tree for our buffet table.  Just a little one… I also wanted to get rid of some of my scrap paper stash. This is the easiest thing in the world to do.  If you can cut pieces of paper into squares, then you can do this craft. Here’s what […]

Using Epsom Salt in your Christmas Decorating.

December 11, 2012 10 Comments

Epsom salt…  Isn’t that what people soak sore feet in? I wouldn’t know.  I only use it for crafts and decorating. Epsom salt is a fabulous, frosty looking salt crystal.  You can pick it up at any drug store or grocery store in the health/pharmacy section.  I use it a lot during the winter.  It looks […]

Sprucing up a fake garland with real greenery.

December 6, 2012 10 Comments

Sprucing… get it?  (Sorry.) Yesterday I shared how much I love the Christmas tree clippings that you can get at your local tree lot, and showed you the little “planters” I made using the cuttings.  Using the same cuttings, it’s very easy to take a cheap, cheesy plastic garland and make it look spectacular. This […]

Simple Christmas planters. (Using Christmas tree clippings.)

clippings, Christmas trees, branches, greenery

I have mentioned how much I love me some sticks, but I also love Christmas Tree lots and their bounty of free evergreen clippings!  Even if your family has an artificial tree, you can still cruise by the lot and ask for  some of the extra Christmas tree clippings. Your local lot is busy selling […]

Make an easy Yarn Tree… in less than 5 minutes.

December 4, 2012 2 Comments

This cute Christmas topiary made from yarn is easy to do and fun to make. Several of them together make a cute centerpiece. Seriously, if this takes you longer than 5 minutes to put together I would be very surprised.

An easy fix for a Nativity set.

November 30, 2012 8 Comments

Happy Friday!  I am waking up in the rainy and gorgeous Portland, Oregon area today!  While I’m off visiting friends, I wanted to share a Quickie-Make-Over with you. I hope it isn’t blasphemous to refer to any nativity as a crappy nativity, but that’s kind of what this one from the Dollar Store started out […]

Holiday decorating using your own photos.

November 29, 2012 5 Comments

If you’re like me, you love photos of your friends and family around you. If you’re like my husband, you complain that you can’t move around the house for fear of knocking over row after row of framed photos like so many dominoes. Compromise!  Practicality wins out, except during the month of December. I bring […]

A Thanksgiving tablescape and centerpiece. (a cheap, easy and beautiful DIY)

November 28, 2012 6 Comments

Yesterday I did a wrap up of our Thanksgiving dinner and decor, but I wanted to share how I put together the hanging centerpiece before I move on to all things Christmas. There are no rules here.  I mixed yard clippings with rhinestones and mercury glass with mason jars… it all worked together. I explained […]

Thanksgiving Wrap Up: Dinner, Decor and the Thanksgiving Table

Thanksgiving, tablescape, centerpiece, fall, autumn, entertaining

Nothing makes me happier than having friends and family around during the holidays. The more, the merrier! (And I love, love, love how my Thanksgiving table turned out.!) Painted pumpkins, greenery from the yard and candles made it gorgeous.
