Make a spooky sangria with Turning Leaf Refresh wines.

October 18, 2013 25 Comments

Fall.  Crisp, cool, and still a good time for a refreshing beverage.  I tried Turning Leaf Refresh wines over the summer and they were quite good.  I don’t typically enjoy sparkling (or sweet) wines but these were a nice surprise.

I was pleasantly surprised by the Crisp White blend.  It was not too sweet, and served over ice it was perfect on a hot day with some cheese, crackers and fresh summer fruits.   It went down verrrry easy.  Yum! (And so refreshing!)

The Red Moscato was good, but too sweet for me, personally.  However, the moment I took a sip I knew it would make a fantastic sangria!

One of the things about sangria is that you usually need to add a lot of sugar and ginger ale or club soda to it.  The Turning Leaf Refresh Red Moscato is already sweet and sparkling, so you don’t need to add much.

I decided to make a Spooky Sangria that I can serve at our upcoming Halloween Party.

You will need:

  • 2 750ml bottles of Turning Leaf Refresh Red Moscato wine
  • 1 cup of club soda or ginger ale
  • 1/2 cup of brandy
  • 1 orange and 1 lemon, cut into wedges
  • 1 lime, cut into slices
  • maraschino cherries, some cut in half
Combine the wine, orange, lemon and brandy.  Let it sit for 30 minutes or so to let the flavors combine.  While the flavors marry, make little cuts in the center of the lime slices and cut some of the cherries in half.  Gently push the cherry half into the center of the lime slice.
Just before serving add the ginger ale or club soda, the lime & cherry “eyeballs” and some ice.  Serve it up, add sugar to taste and enjoy!
I’m going to refresh it forward to the amazing Jessica at Mad In Crafts, because I think she enjoys throwing parties and entertaining as much as I do!  Be sure and check out her mad entertaining skills!   One lucky reader will have the chance for me to “Refresh It Forward” to them by having a chance to enter to win a prize pack from Turning Leaf, valued at $50!

Yes, I do like Sangria. In the summer we like to put peaches, lemons and limes in it.
