Chocolate Almond Banana Smoothie Recipe

January 28, 2015 5 Comments

I have not been feeling myself lately.  I definitely haven’t been looking like myself lately.  I had major back problems in 2014 and I only recently found a doctor who could fix the problem.  After a pain induced sedentary lifestyle and being out of my exercise routine, I’m now ready to drop the thirty (30!) pounds I gained over the last year.    I feel like most of this unwanted weight is around my middle.  In fact, to the point where I remember the good ‘ol days when the main body image complaint I had was my booty.

I got myself a FitBit, am paying more attention to my activity levels, and I have been reading up on foods that are supposed to be better if you are dealing with belly issues.  A word that keeps coming up?  Probiotics.  So when I was asked if I would like to try Renew Life Skinny Gut Ultimate Shakes I was up for it.

I used it to make a Chocolate Almond Banana Smoothie, which was really yummy!

I regularly make smoothies and always add a protein powder to them, so giving something new a try was fine with me.  I had been reading an article on flat belly super foods and it had some interesting things to say about vegetable protein powder, so this was already on my radar.

The Skinny Gut powder is made from plant based proteins and has 20 grams of protein, 10 grams of fiber and a whole lotta active probiotic cultures in it.  The more I am reading about it, the more it seems that probiotics are important for getting a flat belly.  (And one can only eat so much yogurt, you know?)

I have a sweet tooth and while I am trying my best to not eat a lot of refined sugar or processed foods, whatever I eat or drink still needs to taste good.  I made a really yummy Chocolate Almond Banana smoothie, and I felt like I got to have a dessert.

Ingredients to make a chocolate almond banana smoothie.

I am more of an eyeball-it kind of person when it comes to making a smoothie, but the basic ingredients you need are as follows:

  • Ice (maybe 1 cup)
  • 1 banana
  • 2 tsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 cups of vanilla almond milk (unsweetened or not – up to you)
  • 1/4 cup almond butter
  • 1 scoop Renew Life Skinny Gut Vanilla Shake

Put everything in the blender and give it a whirl.  As I mentioned, I have a sweet tooth and on occasion I have been known to add a little drizzle of honey to sweeten things up a bit.  That is totally optional.  There is also a Renew Life Skinny Gut Chocolate Shake so if you are using that, you could omit the cocoa powder.

I have had this jar of almond butter for a month now.  I bought it, hearing that it was preferable to peanut butter.  Guess what?  I hated it.  The only way I could choke it down was to mix it with a lot of honey.  I don’t like to waste food (which might possibly explain a few of these extra 30 pounds) but pairing the almond butter with the chocolate and banana was sooooo delish!

Let me know if you try #SkinnyGutShake. I would love to know what you think. I am loving how it tastes and the fact that I will satisfy my sweet tooth while getting a good dose of probiotics, protein and fiber. I’m hoping this will be a big help on my journey to lose 30 pounds of Wine Belly. *These statements have not been evaluated by the FDA. I have never tried this particular brand of protein powder but I make smoothies a lot! There’s some controversy about concentrate vs isolate. I understand your frustration with not feeling like yourself! I was feeling that way myself for far too long! I finally found THM and it’s really worked for me. I blogged about it here: http://sheilaspotpourri.blogspot.com/2013/08/trim-healthy-mama-it-works.html. I kept the weight off for quite some time. Then I went to Italy. ahem. ITALY!! Lots of pizza, pasta and gelato for me! Now I’m struggling with getting back on plan. I keep falling off the bandwagon but I keep climbing back on. It’s what’s keeping me from ballooning, but I definitely want to get back down to goal weight. I wish you the best on your journey! Keep us posted!

I am just amazed that almond milk doesn’t have much protein since it’s made from almonds!….I usually use Kefir in my shakes.

Currently working on losing 40lbs viv. the STRUGGLE is real. Two years Of money worries, a cross-country move and a sedentery job – plus way too much wine (if there is such a thing) and i had only ever weighed this much fully pregnant. When i saw pictures in may i was APPALLED. Down 7lbs so far and getting back in the groove of running and weights. Feeling stronger every day 🙂 all that to say – that smoothie looks yummy! And i love probiotics. Take your vitamin d too 🙂
