Cheapy, Creepy, Halloween Party Invitations

September 22, 2010 15 Comments

Handsome Hubby and I decided to have a Halloween Party this year. (OK. I decided to throw it and told HH that I hoped he would attend…) I want to do this as inexpensively as possible, but with style. Invitations set the tone. I was able to snap up some silver/black toned iridescent card-stock that […]

Mother’s Day Brunch Inspiration: birds, butterflies and booze. Ahhh. (decor ideas)

May 12, 2010 23 Comments

Why do I host a Mother’s Day Brunch? I’m a mom… shouldn’t I be the attendee and not the host…? Why play hostess? Because I get to do crafty things that are purely unnecessary… but they bring me joy. Crafty Joy is my Mother’s Day gift to me. Each year I have a different color […]

I’m dreaming of a Black & Gold Christmas.

December 14, 2009 33 Comments

OK…  I’ve actually been dreaming of a black and gold Christmas. We’ve been under Christmas Construction around here and I’m almost done. However, the Nesting Place is having a Holiday Tour of Homes and I wanted to post something. If you click on any of these pictures, you must promise to ignore the dust (how […]

Thanksgiving Decor Wrap-Up

November 30, 2009 26 Comments

I mentioned that I’ve been a bit busy with my Thanksgiving preparations. We had 20 people for Thanksgiving dinner. My dining room seats 8 people comfortably (…. 10 people uncomfortably). We needed to move things out to the patio. Since we live in Southern California, this is usually a safe move. However, our patio just […]

Easy monogrammed ornaments.

November 10, 2009 35 Comments

Make pretty, monogrammed ornaments. Take horrible, plastic, over-sized ornaments from the Dollar Store…. Spray paint them, add a monogram and liberally apply glitter….  Ta-da! To do this, I used a Cricut (calligraphy cartridge) and black cardstock.** I watered down a little ModPodge in a shallow dish, then floated the cut letter in there for a […]

As I try to promote my new business, a friend suggested I come to her Holiday Boutique. I could hand out brochures and business cards.  Cool. But I figured I should have a little something to sell, too…. and that whatever I sold should be a re-done/re-worked/re-purposed something or other. Here are a few of […]

Fakers.

October 15, 2009 18 Comments

You know those fake orange pumpkins you can buy at craft stores? The ones that look like fake pumpkins? You know, the fake ones pretending to be real. Everyone knows they’re fake. If they’re already fake looking, you may as well make them look like they’re supposed to be that way. I take my fake […]

The skinny on Santa: How to tell your kids the truth about Santa Claus.

October 7, 2009 25 Comments

When I was a kid, I figured out the Santa thing on my own: Why does Santa have Mom’s handwriting? Why did he use the same wrapping paper as my Mom? (Even then, the idea that he wrapped presents at each house seemed terribly inefficient to me….) As an adult, I made sure when Santa […]
